Madrid, 21 of November 2008
Dear Pr. Belkacemi,
Following our previous contacts as well the indications from Pr. Marsglia; I have the honour to provide you with some specific information on our institution, Instituto Madrileno de Oncologia (Grupo IMO) in order to formally submit our application for working closely with the Association of Radiotherapy and Oncology of the Mediterranean Area (AROME). We would be proud to collaborate with such a promising association, taking into consideration that we both share strategic purposes.
Since 1991, IMO is dedicated to introducing innovative radiation therapy techniques in Spain, notably Stereotactic Radiosurgery (more than 3,000 patients treated), High Dose Brachytherapy, IMRT and Tomotherapy, what makes of IMO one of the most complete radiotherapy platforms of Europe. On our network of 8 centres, 160 multidisciplinary professionals work in a safe and comfortable environment being responsive to the needs of around 4,000 patients every year (25,000 patients have been treated so far). These clinical activities are performed under strict quality & security protocols and criteria based on the most demanding international standards.
Grupo IMO is also keen on developing scientific & training programmes by means of Fundaci n Grupo IMO*, its non profit branch which works in cooperation with public and private institutions with the aim of promoting knowledge, research and training for radio-oncologists and radio-physicists. Accordingly, we suggest you to consider our current training programmes (a fellowship of 1,500? per month and accommodation, is included) such as:
· The International Master of Advanced Technologies on Radiation Therapy with the support of a Spanish University. The aim of this full-time programme is to broaden the knowledge of practitioners on new RT technologies. For the first edition (2009), we are providing access for 12 junior fellows who might be interested on one-year fellowship. The programme will involve lectures and seminars each week in addition to practical activities in our network of facilities.
· Diploma Programmes for “Clinical Observers”, focusing on practical activities regarding IMRT and Brachytherapy techniques. These programmes take place in our facilities in Alicante and Murcia (on the Mediterranean coast) and include a part-time rotation at the TomoTherpy Centre in Madrid.
We would also like to underline that there might be further opportunities for collaborate to be seized, in parallel to our international expansion. More precisely, we are currently supporting local doctors to set up both RT facilities in Tangier & Tirana and have reached a scientific agreement with the Centre Medical de Forcilles (PSPH, Ile-de-France) in order to update its RT service by means of the installation of 2 new Linear Accelerators in the period of 2008-2010. Forcilles is already considered a reference centre for Elekta & IMPAC training practices.
In any case, I would personally like to thank you very much for your time and for the good reception you have provided to our proposals.
